Once upon a time, we lived in Wilson, NC. There was a business in town called White's Tires. Out in front, as advertising was a man with a tire in his hand. I forget the whole story now, I'll have to ask my dad. There were only a certain number of these advertising statues made. At one time they all advertised for a certain tire company. As the years went by some of the locations stopped using their tire man as advertising. There is, or was, a website listing where they could all be found. We've seen several of them. The boys were little when we lived in Wilson, so when we passed him we would say, "Hello, Tire Man". There was one on the road from Raleigh to Wake Forest so when we would go to visit my parents we would say, "Hello, Tire Man's Cousin". He was painted as a farmer in overalls. Imagine our surprise when we saw this one painted as a voyaguer somewhere around Two Harbors, MN. We yelled, "Bonjour, Tire Man's Cousin." Sunday, May 3, 2009
