Spare Ribs for Dinner

The Influenza A H1N1 novel virus is all over the news. Of course they are calling it the swine flu. It appears the only pigs who have it got it from a farm worker! In these tough economic times the agriculture industry does not need such negative press. In light of the fact Daddy worked in the pork industry for 15 years and we have friends and neighbors who are pork producers and we have raised pigs ourselves, tonight we are having pork for dinner!

Doesn't she look like Mary from the _Little House_ books?

New Chicks

Our layers will molt this fall and during molt they do not lay. At least that is what I have gathered from reading the chicken book. So, we got some new chicks that will begin laying before the others stop, at least I think so. A couple of them we are raising for a friend that does not have a brooder. We got two different kinds so we could sort them in the chicken coop. The yellow ones are called Red Star (or was it Gold Star?) and the black ones are Barred Rock.

Picnic

It is that time of year again, warm enough for picnics! We met Daddy halfway between home and where he is working at a nice park on a lake.
