On the Market

Our home is on the market. Once it sells we'll be moving to SD near where Daddy is working. Anyone looking for a hobby farm in SW MN leave me a comment : )

Happy 20th Anniversary to Us!

Husband was home for a long weekend before heading back to CA so we went out to dinner to celebrate our 20th anniversary a couple of days early. We got all dressed up and went to Applebees. We had an appetizer, yummy dinner and shared a decadent dessert. We talked and talked and talked. I didn't have to take anyone to the potty, cut anyone's food, referee any disagreements or listen to any bodily noises(why do boys think it is so funny to burp or pass gas?) I love him more today than I even knew about 20 years ago.

Homeschool Play Day at the W Farm

The W family has a working dairy farm. The children enjoy seeing the calves, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, guineas, cows and bulls. All of the machinery was of particular interest to the boys. The children zip down the zipline, climb on the cornstock bales, climb through the grain truck, bounce on the trampoline, and pet the calves while we moms chat.

Planting the Garden

Another PJ day for Little Sister ? ! We got the garden in the ground over a series of three or four days. We need to add some more tomato and pepper plants. And successive plantings of corn, peas, and lettuces so we have them for a longer time period.

Happy Memorial Day

While enjoying the unofficial first day of summer we paused to consider WHY we have Memorial Day. I reminded my children that it is to honor those who died in service to their country. We are very thankful to those who serve and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The entry to our city cemetery was lined with large flags, beautifully waving in the wind, of course I forgot my camera.

Spring Kittens

have been born at the stable.

Flowers

Clematis, iris and a few dandelions thrown in for good measure!

Bird Nests

The robin leaves her nest and scolds us loudly when we check on her nest. The little wren leaves her nest so quickly when I try to take a picture of her that I have never gotten her in the picture. Unfortunately, her nest was either blown out of the wagon wheel or perhaps the dogs were too interested in the eggs. . . It wasn't a great place to build a nest to begin with.

We decided to try incubating

some of our hens' eggs. We were unsuccessful at candling them (determining whether or not a chick is growing). Chicks incubate for 21 days, so hatch day is June 8th!

While we were at

the assisted living facility Big Sister struck up a conversation with a resident who was knitting. They talked about fiber arts. I was struck by the differences and the similarities.

Planting with our Homeschool Group

We were planting annuals in the nursing home garden to brighten the outdoor spot for the residents. Baby wasn't sure what to think of the worm I found him.

I love the smell of lilacs ~ mmmmm spring!

Wheelbarrow Rides!

Baby

enjoys a butterfly cupcake made by a friend. Later, he climbed the mini rock wall

Our Homeschool Picnic

The children sang a couple of songs, some children did individual pieces and we ate yummy sweet and savory foods.

His foot is broken

in three places. Metatarsals two, three and four are broken. He'll be in a cast for five weeks. He is quite disappointed.

Baking

The girls made tea cakes from their princess cookbook and served their brothers a picnic under the trees.

Relax!

Knot Board

Big Brother is going to be a Eagle Trail Specialist at Boy Scout Camp this summer and he will teaching first year scouts knots and lashings among other things. He made the knot board for the boys to practice on and the examples of lashings as a model.

Can you see the woodpecker

May Full Moon

I don't have a picture of May's full moon because it was overcast, or cloudy or stormy the whole time the moon was full or nearly so. The May full moon is named the Full Flower Moon or the Full Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon.

Mud Pie

Baby enjoyed making this mud pie and then we both enjoyed a "taste".
