Just like last spring a few Canada geese arrive much earlier than the rest. They are standing on the slough, it is still frozen. Just an FYI geese are supposed to swim in water, not stand on ice. We named these two "Fred and Ethel" and I voice their banter.
"Fred, I told you it was too early to go North," Ethel says.
Fred replies, "Just be quiet Ethel, we have our pick of nesting places."
"I can't nest if my feet are frozen, " retorts Ethel.
The children think it is very humorous and beg me to do "Fred and Ethel" whenever we see an early pair.
