Every night before dark we let the guineas back into the chicken coop. Well, one night I was too late and they roosted in the trees. Unfortunately, we lost one that night. The guineas saw me at the chicken coop and one of them tried to come in but they don't see or fly well at night and Rowan was just waiting for an opportunity like that. That put us down to 11 guineas, because sometime this summer one of the female guineas didn't come home one night. I told the children that she might have gone wild, or may have been eaten by a fox, owl or eagle. The children insisted that she had a nest in the grove and that they saw her during the day. I didn't believe them until I saw her one day. But, as the days and weeks went by I never expected to see her again, figuring she had been eaten by now. Imagine my surprise one morning when I went out to feed the chickens and let the guineas out and she was there WITH A CLUTCH OF KEETS. They were just hatched. She and the babies spent the day with the flock of guineas and came back in at night. Guineas lay between 30-40 eggs. She brought back about 15 the first morning. After a couple of days there were nine. I thought this was pretty bad odds but after reading some more about guineas I realized that she did an awesome job.
