As part of Fire Safety Week our local fire station has an open house. We went with our homeschool group for a tour. It gives us a chance to say hello and thank you. All of our firefighters are volunteer. They have beds at the fire house so in case of bad weather the firefighters can sleep near the fire trucks. One of the main reasons we go is to allow the children to see the firefighters in all their gear. The gear and breathing apparatus can be a little frightening. So, in case of emergency, hopefully the firefighters would be remembered as friendly and helpful.
