We are excited to announce

we will be hosting an exchange student. I was waiting for a more formal confirmation from the program. We had our home visit today and the area coordinator told me to email the student to ask him his flight plans. I did. But, no response, of course his country is hours ahead(or is it behind?) ours, so I figured tonight or maybe tomorrow I'd hear from him. Well, I heard from him tonight, on the phone, from the airport, the one he flew into, the one I'm supposed to pick him up at, only I didn't know he was arriving tonight! Daddy and the boys had already left for their camp-in and my minivan is in the shop. Thankfully the area coordinator was able to connect him with another family for the night. Tomorrow, the area coordinator will bring him to our home. He will be here for the semester, January through June. We can't wait to meet him!

Baby, it's cold outside!

Never got above zero today. Daddy and the big boys have gone to a camp-in with their scout troop. They are supposed to go sledding and play board games. I'm thinking there will be more game playing than sledding. However, they may be sleeping outside in tents to earn their Polar Bear Badges. BRRRRRR!

Family Skating

Friday night, after Little Brother had practice, and both big boys participated in Open Hockey, we went to Open Family Skating. Baby sat in the stroller and watched. I forgot my camera, so you'll just have to imagine us having fun! We will go back and I'll remember my camera.

Sledding with our Homeschool Group

On Friday afternoon we met at the town hill for sledding. It was cloudy, about 20 degrees F, and still. We talked about sledding again next Friday but it is supposed to be much colder next week.

Put to good use.

A couple of years ago one of my sisters gave me this "kit". I always used it to decorate my house in January. If we got snow in NC, there was usually not enough to make a snowman. However, here we had enough!

You know those Visa commercials. . .

Snowsuit - yard sale, $1.50. Hat - scraps from another project. Sled - thrift store, $4.00. Baby's laugh - priceless!

Hockey is Hard Work!

I'm all tuckered out, need a nap, can't watch any more hockey. . .
Usually each boy has two games each weekend. Usually one is home and one is away(one hour to one and one half hours away). Daddy usually goes to the away games, I usually take the three younger to the home games. But, this weekend they each had a tournament. Four games, one on Friday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Little Brother's tournament was four hours away, there were 16 teams. We don't know yet how they did. They got great t-shirts and participation medals. They played lots of good hockey and went swimming at the hotel. Big Brother's tournament was one hour away, there were five teams, and they came in second. They held the best team to three goals and scored one of only two points scored against the winning team the whole weekend.

Happy Birthday to Me!

My first sewing project of 2008.

I made the Double Duty Bag by Sew Baby. It was fun, easy and the directions were clear. The pattern called for two fabrics but, I chose to use one instead. I will make this bag again, in fact I've already had two requests ~ Big Sister and Little Sister need new bags also.

I lost a tooth!

Little Sister lost her first tooth tody and she was VERY excited!

I guess all the good bowl names were taken. . .

for instance, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl. So the hockey Tournament the boys played in, ended up with the name Toilet Bowl. It was a just for fun, mixed age teams tourney. The winning team won, you guessed it- a gold toilet seat!

Happy New Year!

Our family tradition, find and light all the candles in the house, order and eat chinese takeout, and work on our lists: prayers answered in 2007, top events in 2007, saddest things in 2007, things we are thankful for and prayers for 2008.

All Work and No Play, Makes Jack a Dull Boy

So today we played, skating on the town's outdoor rink then to a great hill for sledding.

The fruit of our labor. . .

wood for the furnace.

Work Before Play

Here we are, hard at work cleaning up the grove. See Daddy's new toy~ a Stihl Farmboss. Nine trees down, who knows how many to go.

Christmas Dinner

Everything tastes better with our prize hats! We enjoyed rolls, salad, ham, pineapple, sweet potoates, scalloped potatoes and green bean casserole. For dessert we munched on fudge, pumpkin pie, apple pie and mint pie.

Christmas Crackers

The big children before they opened the crackers, Baby with his prize.

Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you!

Baby's overalls have a reindeer face on the bib and the straps are antlers, too cute!
